Woolly Good Rug Hooking Retreat Two
Saturday June 29 – July 2, 2022
Instruction Daily 10am – 4pm
Artist-in-Residence:
Our second Woolly Good Artist-in-Residence is the renowned Molly White, Craftsperson and Owner of Molly Made Fibre Art Studio, Bonne Bay NL. Her first experience with rug hooking came about in 2000 when she attended a workshop offered in her community by instructor and one of the founders of the Rug Hooking Guild of Newfoundland and Labrador (RHGNL), Joan Foster. From that first class Molly has been enthralled with the tradition of this new craft. She has always been interested in crafts from an early age where she would watch her mother use embroidery stitches to decorate table clothes and pillowcases for their home, knit sock, hats and mittens for the children, make blankets from left over pieces of fabric, to name a few. Her passion for crafts would lead her to rug hooking. She loves hooking and designing her own images into a finished piece of art.
Creative Stitches/Rug Hooking “SEA TO SHORE”
Learning to hook and stitch on even weave foundation, create relief, textures and three dimensions. Focus is on experimentation and discovery. Discover how to combine your rug hooking and stitching with found ocean treasures. Experiment with stitches, colours, and fibres. Learn about this tradition that was passed down from our grandmothers and the beauty of adding natures treasures.
In this workshop the participants will experience and use the knowledge gained in rug hooking and stitching intertwined with found beach treasures and other fibres to create their own art.
